The first combined SGF (Scottish Grocers’ Federation)/ACS (Association of Convenience Stores) Post Office Committee meeting was recently held at SGF headquarters in Edinburgh.
The meeting, chaired by John Drummond, Chief Executive of SGF, brought together representatives from both trade associations and their members including individual sub-postmasters and retail groups from across the UK.
Representing Post Office Ltd, Keith Rosser, Strategic Network Partnerships Manager, gave a comprehensive presentation outlining POL’s intention to secure and develop the network, as recently announced by the UK Government.
He advised that the UK Government was dedicated to developing the Post Office which will involve a major refresh of its network and its products.
In particular, discussion centred on plans to expand Post Office Essentials, offering post office services over the counter of a shop rather than a dedicated post office counter.
Following the meeting both John Drummond and James Lowman, Chief Executive of ACS, agreed the meeting was extremely worthwhile.
John Drummond said: “Post Offices are an important part of many convenience store businesses. The joint Post Office Committee will strengthen the voice of the convenience store sector and ensure SGF and ACS members are in a strong position to feed into strategic and operational developments taking place within Post Office Ltd.”
Commenting James Lowman, Chief Executive of ACS said,
“Service provision is a crucial aspect of many convenience store business. We look forward to working with SGF on the joint Post Office committee, which will bring a wide variety of Post Office retailers together to constructively discuss the future of direction of the Post Office.”
