The team, who we employ, have many years of experience in working both with the Convenience Store sector and within general retail in all aspects of card payments. In addition, Payfficiency has been working with SGF member Scotmid over the past few months analyzing the existing payment systems in place, including card acceptance, to ensure that Scotmid is receiving the best possible value in various card payment processes.

Merchant Service Charge Audit
Payfficiency will analyze any Members’ existing card acquiring deal and can advise if a more beneficial contract is available. This analysis will take into account:
- Existing credit card percentage paid
- Current debit card flat rate paid
- Card terminal rental
- Refund methodology employed
- Telephone authorisation charges
- PCI charges (security)
- Settlement period
To complete the analysis we simply need a copy of the Members credit card statement. We normally charge a percentage of any saving achieved in the first year of the new contract, but are always happy to discuss any alternative methods of re-numeration. There is not usually a requirement to change any Banking accounts. If a significant saving is not achievable at least the Member will be assured that an efficient deal is already in place.
Supply of Card Processing Terminals
For existing card acceptors and Businesses new to card acceptance we can supply various card terminals (fixed, portable or mobile) together with card agreements to any Members at discounted rates. The card terminals are supplied by the leading global manufacturer.
Provision of Internet Payment Systems
Virtual Terminal – This is a manual entry payment portal, which allows secure transaction processing for low/medium volume Retailers who want to get started quickly. Can be used on any PC connected to the Internet and features a wizard driven interface for simple transaction keying. This would allow Members to accept payments for goods via the telephone and key the transaction directly into the Banking systems via Visa and MasterCard . This is ideal for a back office environment. This software is supplied by Adflex Ltd, a leading player in this environment. Secure Payment Pages – This is a secure hosted payment page which works in conjunction with your Members web sites. When customers have browsed the websites and press the shopping basket icon they are directed to a page which allows them to enter their card details. Funds are directed to the relevant Bank Accounts. This would be very effective with a buy and collect system currently employed by some of the supermarkets.
Providing a facility to accept purchasing cards
Many Corporate companies now make use of purchasing cards. These are similar to credit cards but carry additional transaction information which allows invoices to be removed from the payment process. (The Company using the cards for purchases and services can use this additional descriptive information to reclaim all VAT).
It may be that some SGF members have been asked to accept purchasing cards (Nearly all Local Authorities, Health Boards etc utilise the cards as do significant players like Procter & Gamble).

Packaging Compliance made easy
Can you explain the Regulations simply?
Most SGF members will be aware of the Producer Responsibility Obligation (Packaging Waste) Regulations, which require companies with turnover exceeding £2 million and who supply or import more than over 50 tonnes of packaging to register with an appropriate agency.
Obligated companies have the option of joining one of the many approved Compliance or they can register directly with their local Environment Agency. In both cases they will be required to submit an annual report (also known as a Data Form) providing detailed information about the packaging handled during the previous calendar year.
Can I get help with this?
Completing your Data Return can be cumbersome, especially if it means contacting suppliers for up to date packaging specifications – remember you are responsible for ensuring your data is correctly submitted in accordance with the Agency’s requirements.
